!What is the Take 5 Books for Summer Reading Initiative?
The Five Forks Media Center is offering incentives to Rising 7th and 8th grade FFMS students who read three or more books over the summer months beyond their required summer reading assignments. Students who return a signed permission slip to participate will be allowed to check out up to five books from the school library to read over the summer. The Media Center will provide the following rewards:
Students may turn in permission slips and check out up to five books for the Take 5 Books for Summer Reading Initiative between May 13 and May 21, 2019. Only students who turn in the signed permission slip will be allowed to check out books. What does the research say about summer reading? “Regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous achievement, children who read four or more books over the summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall than their peers who read one or no books over the summer.” --Jimmy Kim, Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk Avoid the Summer Slide and participate in this summer reading extravaganza! Hey Broncos! The media center wants to reward you for reading books that you love. In October we are introducing our "Teen Read Hour". All you have to do is come to the Media Center to check out your favorite books first thing in the morning or during extended homeroom and you could be a winner! So if you want to win . . . ask your teacher for a pass. Winners will be randomly selected each week from the media center sign-in so don’t forget to check in on the computer! Six Flags Six Hour Reading Program (6th Grade Only)
Read to Succeed is a free educational program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. The program encourages students in grades K through 6 to engage in recreational reading. Students who complete six hours of recreational, non-school-related reading are eligible to earn a free admission ticket to a participating Six Flags Theme Park. This program takes place from January through mid-February. Students have from now until March 10, 2015 to complete six hours of reading. Reading Logs Atlanta Gladiators Hat Trick for Reading ChallengeReceive one (1) FREE youth ticket to one of three Atlanta Gladiators Game by checking out and reading at least (3) books from the Five Forks Media Center.
